New England is filled with natural beauty, but there’s something special about Vermont. Although I love every state in this region, Vermont in the fall continues to entice me with its stunning fall foliage, covered bridges, and peaceful countryside. With so many breathtaking sights, you need an extended stay in Vermont for the best experience. Fortunately, The Green State is one of the smallest in America, and a solid base allows you to discover its natural beauty. 1. Off the grid cabin in the Green Mountains
West Bolton
I love off-the-grid adventures, so naturally, this breathtaking cabin is my personal favorite Vermont Airbnb. Its secluded location in the Green Mountains connects you with nature like nowhere else in Vermont. The cabin is so isolated that you can’t even park your car beside the property. To reach your mountain home, you’ll have to make a short trek to the front door. Sounds like fun to me!
The cabin does include seasonal perks like its solar-heated outdoor shower, non-potable kitchen water, and indoor wood stove. If you’re planning on a winter vacation, you must know how to operate the woodstove. It will be your only source of heating for your stay. But if you’re up for an adventurous trip into the Vermont wilderness, this 20-acre property won’t disappoint.
For outdoor enthusiasts like myself, you’ll find no shortage of exhilarating activities around the cabin. The area includes hiking trails, mountain biking, rock climbing, and tranquil swimming holes. During the winter months, it turns into a blissful region for skiing and snowboarding. And don’t forget to wander outside at night for some of the best stargazing in New England.
2. Magical Cozy Vermont Cabin & Sauna
Marshfield
An adorable Vermont cabin with a sauna? Count me in! Nestled in the Green Mountains, this Nordic-style cabin gives you the feeling of camping without having to pitch a tent. The cabin sits around 30 minutes north of Montpelier but feels light-years from city life. And with 11 acres of verdant forests around you, it creates some incredible foliage during fall.
After hiking through the woods, relax beside the fire pit for a surreal stargazing experience. Don’t be surprised to hear the rustling of bears, deer, turkeys, and other wildlife within the forest. For those chilly winter nights, a small electric heater makes the cabin a comfy hideaway. Regardless of the season, the sauna is too tempting to resist.
The queen-size futon sleeps 2 guests, and the kitchenette includes a cookstove, small fridge, and toaster oven. Coffee, tea, and light breakfast foods are provided, and you may also get some fresh eggs and vegetables. For such a dreamy setting, what more could you ask for to explore the Vermont wilderness?
3. Log Cabin Getaway near Middlebury
Leicester
If you dreamed of the log cabin experience, this Leicester Airbnb has your name on it. Situated on 70 acres of pristine woodlands, the cabin offers solitude for a peaceful stay. While the cabin embraces its rustic appeal, that doesn’t mean you must give up comfy amenities on your vacation.
Its fully-stocked kitchen has everything you need to cook your meals and feel right at home. The charcoal grill and fire pit area perfect for summer cookouts, and the cabin has air conditioning during summer. And the cozy gas fireplace for those chilly winter nights is my favorite touch for a soothing cup of hot chocolate.
There’s no TV inside the cabin, but I’m sure that wouldn’t bother adventurous travelers. Leicester is near the beautiful Branbury State Park for hiking trails, waterfalls, and a lakefront beach. You’ll also find local farmers’ markets for fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, and flowers.
4. Gorgeous house with panoramic lake views
Burlington
If your group needs a picturesque location beside Lake Champlain, this modern space is your best bet. There’s enough space to sleep 8 guests, and a fully-equipped kitchen lets your group cook large meals. With comfy seats positioned behind the house, you’ll have a front-row seat to sunsets over Lake Champlain. The bright shades of orange and purple sparkling on the lake’s surface with a mountain backdrop is a breathtaking sight.
Burlington is an easy stroll or bike ride from your front door, and you’ll find tons of shops and eateries in the downtown district. Church Street Marketplace has a festive vibe, and Waterfront Park offers seaside activities. But you won’t even need to venture to Burlington to sail the sparkling waters of Lake Champlain. There are convenient places to rent sailboats and paddleboards a short walk from your vacation rental.
The spacious windows inside the home gaze over the lake and the cozy living room has space for everyone. There’s a soaking tub inside the master bedroom and backyard space to sunbathe while watching boats cruise Lake Champlain.
5. Lovely Treehouse in the Woods next to Stream
Hardwick
Ever remember the days playing in a treehouse as a kid? Well, this unique Vermont Airbnb brings those memories back to life with this endearing treehouse near Hardwick. With the sounds of a tranquil stream echoing in the background, you’ll instantly feel secluded from the urban noise. There are hiking and skiing trails near the property for tons of outdoor adventures. And if you’re craving a drink, you’ll find several breweries and distilleries a short drive from the treehouse.
Beneath your treehouse, there’s a sitting area with a hammock to chill and space for a campfire. The mini-kitchen efficiently utilizes the area and includes a propane camp stove, charcoal grill, and small fridge/freezer. Climb the ladder to the sleeping loft and admire the rustic décor of the living room. You’ll notice a small lamp in the corner that’s great for catching up on your reading at night.
Walk onto the outdoor deck and enjoy the magical views overlooking the stream that trickles near the treehouse. While the home features a composting toilet, you can use a modern bathroom and shower at the nearby house. But in this beautiful setting, I wouldn’t mind roughing it.
6. Exclusive Home with Forest Views – Sterling Treehouse
Stowe
For a unique accommodation in the Green Mountains, the Sterling Treehouse offers a magical stay for groups. The custom-built cabin sits on 40 acres that overlook the Sterling Valley and surround you with verdant forests. When fall rolls around, eye-popping foliage engulfs the mountainous landscape. The owners wanted the modern home to share Vermont’s natural beauty with their children, but now worldly travelers get to bask in the Green Mountains.
With three bedrooms, the space is large enough to bring your travel party and plan an adventurous Vermont getaway. There are hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing trails beside the property to hit the outdoors. And don’t miss the magical waterfalls in the nearby Sterling Gorge.

9. Hobbitish Fantasy in The Lush Green Mountains VT
Middletown Springs
Hobbiton comes to the Green Mountains with this one-of-a-kind Vermont Airbnb. When you arrive at ‘The Hill,’ it’s okay to mistakenly think you’re waltzing around the Shire from the famous movie set. The property is divided into the ‘Double Dragon Pub’ and ‘Baggs Inn’ sections, and each area boasts a unique character. With its brilliant combination of Tolkienesque-style touches, antique furnishings, and modern conveniences, it feels like you’ve entered another dimension.
Baggs Inn hosts the living space and includes a queen bed sleeping nook, full kitchen, and full bathroom with clawfoot tub. The Double Dragon Pub features pub-style décor, darts, and fun board games. Brattleboro
How about a stay inside an old church for your Vermont getaway? This Brattleboro Airbnb makes it happen, and the beautiful 1800s church is now a cozy studio apartment. In its former life, the vacation rental was a congregation for Swedish immigrants and a glass studio.
The apartment still has its gorgeous stained glass windows, and the upgraded kitchenette includes a hot plate, toaster oven, and french press coffee maker. When you walk outside each morning, the radiant smell of flowers from the garden provides a pleasant aroma. The foliage from the trees is stunning during fall, and each day delivers a colorful show.
